How to cure Dandruff at home?

Posted by Sarah Arif on

Dandruff is a common scalp condition that affects many people and can be a source of embarrassment. It is characterized by flaky, itchy skin or even oily on the scalp and can be caused by a variety of factors like dry skin, fungal infections, and certain medical conditions as well.

If your dandruff condition is serious, it is suggested to visit a Dermatologist rather than following DIY hacks.

There are several home remedies that can help you to cure dandruff at home while keeping your scalp clean and healthy. A clean scalp means healthy hair follicles. Here are some of the most effective ways to cure dandruff at home:

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is a natural anti-fungal agent that helps to balance the pH of the scalp and remove excess oil. Mix equal parts of water and apple cider vinegar, and massage it into the scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with water.

  2. Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agent that can help to kill the fungus that causes dandruff. Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or Almond Oil and massage it into the scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with water.

  3. Baking Soda: Baking soda is a natural exfoliant that can help to prevent any itching or excess oil production. Mix a small amount of baking soda with water to create a paste and apply it to the scalp. You can simply apply on your dry scalp and leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse it off with water.

  4. Aloe Vera: Aloe vera is a natural anti-inflammatory that can help to soothe the scalp and reduce itching. Apply aloe vera gel to the scalp and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with water. Use Aloe vera based shampoos to prevent any scalp build-up.

  5. Neem: Neem is a natural anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory agent that can help to reduce dandruff and itching. Boil a handful of neem leaves in water and strain the mixture. Use this solution to rinse your hair after shampooing.

  6. Lemon Juice: Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C and can help to remove dead skin cells and reduce itching. Mix equal parts of lemon juice and water and apply it to the scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with water.

It is very crucial to also maintain a healthy lifestyle. Avoid adding junk food in your diet. Avoid harsh chemicals such as sulphate shampoos, conditioners, styling products or even heat. These home remedies should be used consistently to see results over a period of time.
