Based on research from journals indexed in the National Library of Medicine

Theanine, a major amino acid in green tea, exhibits a stress-reducing effect in humans. Matcha, which is essentially theanine-rich powdered green tea, is abundant in caffeine.

It has also been reported that matcha green is rich in EGCG, one of the most active tea catechins. Matcha green tea is expected to have a wide range of health benefits due to its characteristic composition of bioactive compounds. Additionally, tea catechins, a major component of green tea, show antibacterial activity against several bacteria such as Salmonella, Clostridium, and Bacillus.

The potential health benefits ascribed to green tea and EGCG include antioxidant effects, cancer chemoprevention, improving cardiovascular health, enhancing weight loss, protecting the skin from the damage caused by ionizing radiation, and others.

Research gathered on EGCG and its impact on cardiovascular and metabolic health shows it can “exhibit a wide range of therapeutic properties including anti-atherosclerosis, anti-cardiac hypertrophy, anti-myocardial infarction, anti-diabetes, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant,” according to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology.

How to Make

1. Pour 1 cup of water into your kettle and bring it to a boil.

2. Turn off the heat and add 1 teaspoon of tea. Now, cover your kettle so that the steam doesn’t escape. Steep for 8-10 minutes.

3. Strain your tea properly and enjoy the warm cup.

To make an ICED tea, add 5-6 cubes into your cup and stir well.
